Facebook shows the key beneath the QR code in Accounts Center, and the same setting covers Instagram when the accounts are linked.

Where Facebook hides the key

  1. Accounts Center → Password and securityTwo-factor authentication → pick the account.
  2. Choose Authentication app.
  3. The Base32 key is printed under the QR code.
  4. Paste it above and confirm with the six digits.

If the key is gone

  1. Recovery codes from Accounts Center.
  2. A trusted device you are still logged in on.
  3. Identity check. Facebook will ask for a photo ID and can take days to answer.

Questions

Does this also cover Instagram?
If the accounts are linked in Accounts Center, one authenticator entry covers both. Unlinked accounts each need their own key.
